Hello all!

So the dust had hardly settled, following the glorious mayhem of our March premiere concerts, when we began recording ‘Out of the Darkness’. This turned into quite a lengthy and a deeply engaging process. I am extremely grateful to all the musicians involved who worked so hard to produce a great result.

I am also extremely grateful to Philip Bagenal who engineered and co-produced the record with me. Philip’s incredible engineering and musical skills proved to be an invaluable contribution to the project.

The CD features the exact same cast of players as from the march premiere concerts; Melanie Pappenheim as mezzo soprano soloist, Sophie Harris and Lucy Railton (‘cellos) and the choir now known as ‘Schoolhouse 6 Ensemble’ and all conducted Howard Moody.

As well as ‘Out of the Darkness’, the CD features the glorious ‘Island Chapel’ by Gavin Bryars (previously unreleased) which was specially composed for Melanie Pappenheim and Sophie Harris plus a simply stunning version of Arvo Part’s ‘Spiegel im Spiegel’ featuring Sophie Harris accompanied by her husband Ian Belton on piano.

We have now just finished mastering the CD and it will be released in November.

I am much looking forward to our autumn concerts in Brighton (Nov 20th), Totnes (28th) and London (Dec 16th). These will feature the same programme as for our March concerts and includes: excerpts from William Byrd’s 4-part mass, Gorecki solo ‘cello sonata (Sophie Harris, ‘cello) and Arvo Part ‘Spiegel im Spiegel’ (Sophie Harris accompanied by Jonathan Williams, piano). I love this programme and look forward to repeating it many times! We will make some programme changes for our London concert, however. As it’s on December 16th at St James’ Piccadilly, we felt we should give it a slightly more Christmassy feel.

Details to be announced soon.

To order tickets for any of our autumn concerts click here.

A very exciting development for me is the coming together of a truly wonderful team – dedicated to promoting ‘Out of the Darkness’ and future projects.

I will introduce you to these people in due course, but suffice to say just now that we have started planning for a 30 date tour through 2010/11 – including concerts in the UK and abroad. More details soon.

New work More details announced soon, but do put September 16th 2010 in your diarY! There will be, all being well, a premiere of something that evening at St James’ PiccadillY!
